Nulla in mundo pax sincera
Between seasons
the aria flows above
a movement of pines.
To the East, green to autumn rust,
to the West, red bark to char.
Major dissolves to minor.
The soloist’s voice clings, sostenuto,
on a truth we cannot hold,
that In the world
there is no honest peace.
Nulla in mundo pax sincera (“In the world there is no honest peace”) is a motet composed in 1735 by Antonio Vivaldi.
